Principal Environmental Compliance Consultant
About the Role
We are seeking a Principal Environmental Compliance & Permitting Consultant to lead and grow our compliance practice in Salt Lake City. This is a high-impact leadership role with a strong emphasis on business development and revenue generation. The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise in multimedia permitting and compliance with the ability to secure annual revenue through client relationships, strategic growth, and market expansion. Due diligence experience (Phase I ESAs) is a plus but secondary to compliance leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive business development and growth: Identify, pursue, and secure new projects and clients in the Utah and Mountain West region.
- Achieve revenue targets: Generate $650k+ annually through new and existing client accounts.
- Lead environmental compliance and permitting projects across multiple media (air, water, waste).
- Oversee preparation of permit applications and regulatory reports for federal and Utah-specific programs.
- Provide expert guidance on environmental justice programs and compliance strategies.
- Support due diligence efforts, including Phase I ESAs, as needed.
- Mentor and manage junior and mid-level staff, fostering technical excellence and career development.
- Represent the firm at industry forums, conferences, and regulatory discussions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or related discipline.
- 10+ years of experience in environmental compliance and permitting; due diligence experience preferred.
- Proven track record of business development and revenue generation in consulting.
- Strong understanding of federal and Utah-specific environmental regulations.
- PE license or advanced certifications preferred.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and client management skills.
