The Role
Our client is seeking an experienced Principal Structural Restoration Engineer to lead complex structural investigation, repair, rehabilitation, retrofit and adaptive reuse projects. This senior leadership position combines technical expertise, project oversight, client relationship management and business development responsibilities. The successful candidate will provide technical direction on challenging restoration projects, mentor engineering teams, manage key client accounts and play a significant role in the continued growth of the practice. This opportunity offers both strategic influence and hands-on involvement with a diverse range of existing structures and forensic engineering assignments.
Responsibilities
- Lead structural investigations involving deterioration, distress, structural damage, fire exposure, impact events, overload conditions and ageing infrastructure.
- Direct the development of repair, strengthening, rehabilitation and retrofit solutions for a variety of structural systems.
- Perform technical evaluations of existing structures and develop recommendations relating to increased loading, adaptive reuse and code compliance.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring successful delivery against scope, programme and budget requirements.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, maintaining strong relationships and delivering exceptional service.
- Prepare and review proposals, including scopes of work, budgets, staffing plans and project strategies.
- Oversee the preparation and quality review of technical reports, calculations, specifications, drawings and presentations.
- Support forensic engineering assignments involving structural failures, performance issues, claims and damage assessments.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to multidisciplinary project teams.
- Mentor and develop junior and mid-level engineers to support professional growth and succession planning.
- Drive business development activities, pursue new opportunities and contribute to practice growth.
- Collaborate with specialists across multiple engineering disciplines to deliver integrated solutions.
- Maintain high standards of quality assurance, technical accuracy and professional integrity.
Qualifications
- Master's degree or doctorate in Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
- Professional Engineer (PE) licence required.
- Structural Engineer (SE) licence preferred.
- 15+ years of structural engineering experience.
- Extensive experience with existing structures, repair and rehabilitation design, structural restoration and forensic engineering.
- Proven track record delivering complex structural investigation, retrofit and adaptive reuse projects.
- Strong project management experience, including responsibility for budgets, schedules and client communication.
- Demonstrated ability to build, maintain and grow client relationships.
- Experience in a seller-doer environment with a successful business development background.
- Strong leadership capabilities with experience managing and mentoring technical teams.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering projects and coordinating with various stakeholders.
- Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.
- Active involvement in professional organisations, technical committees or industry publications is advantageous.
- Ability to travel to project sites as required.
