Core Responsibilities

Project Leadership

  • Serve as Senior Project Manager for roadway, highway, bridge, and multimodal design projects.
  • Develop detailed project scopes, schedules, and budgets, ensuring alignment with client expectations and firm standards.
  • Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary project teams, fostering collaboration across engineering disciplines.
  • Monitor project performance, including cost, schedule adherence, technical quality, and client satisfaction.
  • Provide Quality Control/Quality Assurance (QC/QA) oversight for key deliverables, including reviews for projects led by other project managers.

Technical Expertise

  • Oversee or contribute to the development of roadway, traffic, and multimodal design components.
  • Apply strong working knowledge of MicroStation, GeoPAK, MDOT design standards, and related industry software.
  • Support the preparation of PS&E packages, design reports, and necessary project documentation.
  • Provide direction to technical staff while ensuring high-quality engineering work products.

Client Engagement & Business Development

  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with state DOTs, counties, municipalities, and regional transportation agencies.
  • Support or lead proposal development, including technical approaches, scopes, fee estimates, and presentations.
  • Participate in client meetings, industry events, and professional organizations to elevate the firm's presence in the region.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and market growth initiatives within Michigan and the Great Lakes region.

Team Development & Collaboration

  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, offering guidance on technical development and professional growth.
  • Bring a collaborative mindset to working with remote teams and distributed project staff.
  • Support internal knowledge-sharing and contribute to building best practices within the project management group.

Remote Work & Travel

  • Effectively manage workloads, priorities, team communication, and project delivery in a remote environment.
  • Travel as needed to support client meetings, field visits, and team collaboration (estimated on a project‑by‑project basis).

Minimum Qualifications

Education & Licensing

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline with a focus on roadway or traffic engineering.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.

Experience

  • 10-25 years of progressive experience in transportation design or project management.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering roadway design projects using MicroStation and GeoPAK.
  • Proven background in roadway design, traffic engineering/design, and PS&E development.
  • Experience developing and managing scopes, schedules, budgets, and project performance metrics.

Technical & Professional Skills

  • In-depth understanding of MDOT specifications, processes, and design requirements.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present effectively to clients and stakeholders.
  • Proven relationship-building skills with state DOTs, municipalities, counties, and other public agency clients.
  • Business development experience, including supporting proposals and client engagement efforts.
  • Ability to coordinate staffing, oversee project execution, and align scope, schedule, and budget from startup to completion.
  • Comfortable working remotely while maintaining proactive communication and team coordination.

  • Existing relationships with Michigan transportation agencies and regional industry partners.
