Senior I&C Engineer Water/wastewater
Role Overview
We are seeking an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to support automation projects for municipal water and wastewater systems. This role focuses on planning, designing, and supporting control systems that are reliable, secure, and maintainable. The position involves direct collaboration with utility clients and internal teams to translate operational needs into practical automation solutions. Engineers at this level are expected to work independently and contribute technical leadership as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and review I&C designs including control strategies, P&IDs, I/O lists, panel layouts, and network architectures
- Support planning efforts such as system assessments, automation roadmaps, and cost estimates
- Design PLC‑based SCADA systems and industrial communication networks using wired and wireless technologies
- Specify instrumentation, analyzers, control hardware, and network components
- Prepare technical specifications and review vendor submittals
- Support construction activities, testing, and commissioning on an as‑needed basis
- Coordinate with designers and other disciplines to maintain scope, schedule, and quality
- Communicate design concepts clearly through technical documentation and client discussions
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Instrumentation & Controls
- 5+ years of experience supporting automation or control systems in water, wastewater, or similar regulated environments
- Strong understanding of PLCs, SCADA systems, industrial networking, and field instrumentation
- Ability to develop and interpret control drawings and documentation
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required or ability to obtain licensure in short order
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Experience
- Experience supporting municipal or utility clients
- Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar design tools
- Exposure to standardization, cybersecurity, or SCADA architecture planning
