Software Automation Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Software Developer to join a team building next-generation AI-powered engineering automation solutions for large-scale manufacturing and process control environments.

The platform utilizes Claude AI, the Anthropic Agent SDK, Claude Code, and related AI technologies to automate the conversion of engineering design data into fully configured DeltaV control system assets, batch recipes, and supporting documentation. Existing capabilities already include automated I/O generation, Control Module generation, and DeltaV Live graphics generation.

This is not an entry-level AI position. We are looking for an engineer who has successfully developed and deployed complex production-grade AI workflows and agentic systems using Claude AI or comparable large language model frameworks.

You will work closely with senior technical leadership to design, develop, test, and refine AI-driven automation solutions that generate real DeltaV configuration deliverables utilized within regulated manufacturing environments. While DeltaV subject matter expertise is supported by the engineering team, your focus will be on building and maintaining the software systems that automate and scale that knowledge.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop Claude AI skills, intelligent agents, and multi-step workflows thatautomateDeltaV engineering activities, including:
    • I/O generation
    • Control Module generation
    • P&ID data extraction
    • Data mapping and transformation
    • Batch recipe development
  • Work within the Anthropic Agent SDK and Claude Code environment to develop, test, and optimize AI-driven workflows.
  • Build and maintain backend services that support workflow orchestration and integrations with existing engineering software tools, including DVB, DVR, and DVCA-based platforms.
  • Develop automated testing frameworks and validation routines that verify AI-generated outputs through pre-check and post-check logic before promotion into production workflows.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of a full-stack orchestration portal, including APIs, backend services, data contracts, and workflow management capabilities.
  • Collaborate directly with DeltaV engineers and subject matter experts to translate engineering requirements into reliable software solutions.
  • Maintain Git-based source control practices, including branching strategies, version management, peer reviews, and deployment workflows.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation covering:
    • Skill architecture
    • Design decisions
    • Input/output specifications
    • Validation methodologies
    • Known limitations and enhancement opportunities

Required Qualifications

Must Have

  • Proven experience building and deploying production AI applications using Claude AI, Anthropic Agent SDK, OpenAI Assistants API, LangChain, Semantic Kernel, CrewAI, AutoGen, or comparable frameworks.
  • Strong Python development experience, including backend services, workflow automation, and API development.
  • Experience working with Model Context Protocols (MCPs) or similar frameworks that connect AI agents with external systems, tools, and data sources.
  • Strong understandingofagentic AI architectures, including:
    • Workflow orchestration
    • Structured output generation
    • Validation pipelines
    • Retry and exception handling
    • Audit logging and traceability
  • Experience integrating AI solutions with enterprise applications and data sources.
  • Proficiency using Git and modern software development workflows.
  • Excellent written communication and technical documentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with both software developers and engineering stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing software within regulated industries, including pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, life sciences, food & beverage, or other compliance-driven environments.
  • Familiarity with DeltaV systems, industrial automation platforms, manufacturing execution systems, or process control technologies.
  • Experience working with Azure services, including:
    • Azure Functions
    • Service Bus
    • Key Vault
    • App Configuration
    • Application Insights
    • Entra ID
  • Experience developing automated testing frameworks using Pytest, XUnit, or similar methodologies.
  • Full-stack development experience involving web applications, APIs, and workflow management platforms.
  • Familiarity with engineering and automation data structures such as:
    • JSON Schemas
    • CSV pipelines
    • SQLite databases
    • FHX file structures
  • Experience integrating AI-generated outputs into validation or quality-controlled environments.

What You'll Be Working On

  • An active software platform with existing AI-powered engineering automation capabilities already in operation.
  • Advanced AI workflows that generate and validate DeltaV configuration assets and engineering deliverables.
  • Integration of Claude AI, Claude Code, and Anthropic Agent SDK technologies into scalable engineering automation processes.
  • Development of validation mechanisms that ensure AI-generated outputs meet engineering and compliance requirements.
  • Collaboration with experienced automation and DeltaV engineers on technically challenging industrial applications.
  • Long-term initiatives focused on accelerating engineering execution through intelligent automation.

Engagement Details

  • Contract engagement with flexible scheduling based on program and project requirements.
  • Remote-first position with periodic travel requirements for workshops, project milestones, and integration activities.
  • Opportunity to work within a small, highly technical team where contributions directly influence architecture and product direction.
