Staff Mechanical Engineer- Pipeline & Facilities

Position Summary

The Staff Mechanical Engineer will collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams to deliver high‑quality designs for new construction, upgrades, and modifications across natural gas facilities. Typical project types include compressor stations, meter and regulator stations, and renewable natural gas installations. This role supports all phases of engineering and construction, ensuring mechanical designs meet project requirements, budget constraints, and client expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical engineering design and analysis for natural gas facilities and pipeline‑related infrastructure.
  • Develop mechanical designs for stations and facilities, including piping systems, material specifications, and layout considerations.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, studies, and technical reports such as pipe stress analyses, pressure relief evaluations, and equipment sizing.
  • Produce and update P&IDs, piping plans, isometric drawings, equipment layouts, and bills of materials.
  • Select and specify mechanical equipment such as compressors, regulators, valves, meters, and pressure relief devices.
  • Coordinate with cross‑disciplinary teams, including Pipeline, Civil/Structural, Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls, and Environmental groups.
  • Review vendor documentation and perform technical evaluations of bids and submittals.
  • Support construction activities through RFI responses, field visits, and preparation of as‑built documentation.
  • Assist in preparing project proposals, scopes of work, schedules, and cost estimates.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME, API, CFR).
  • Participate in client meetings and maintain strong communication with owners, contractors, and vendors.
  • Contribute to process improvements, development of internal standards, and quality control efforts.
  • Provide support for business development and marketing initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from an ABET‑accredited program and 3 years of mechanical engineering experience, preferably in consulting;
    OR
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET‑accredited program, FE exam completed, and 3 years of mechanical engineering experience, preferably in consulting;
    OR
  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering and 2 years of mechanical engineering experience, preferably in consulting.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Working knowledge of industry codes and standards, including ASME B31.3, B31.4, B31.8, API 520/521, and 49 CFR Part 192.
  • Experience with mechanical design software, modeling tools, and engineering analysis programs.
  • Strong understanding of standard engineering methods and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Demonstrated analytical, quantitative, and critical‑thinking skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant engineering software such as AutoCAD, BIM/Revit, 3D modeling tools, hydraulic analysis programs, and HVAC analysis programs.
  • Strong attention to detail, with proven teamwork, organization, and problem‑solving capabilities.
  • Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) certification preferred.
