Substation Engineer

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed engineering and design work for substation projects, covering everything from initial concept through construction, for systems ranging from 4kV to 345kV
  • Handle relaying, protection, and control system design
  • Complete structural, civil/site, and foundation design associated with projects
  • Develop and update design drawings and documentation, including one-line and three-line diagrams, control schematics, wiring diagrams, relay panel layouts, specifications, and cable/conduit routing and sizing, as well as bills of materials
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with project managers, clients, and other stakeholders
  • Develop project scopes, schedules, and budgets, and ensure deliverables stay on track
  • Take on responsibilities as a project engineer or project manager when needed

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (preferably with a power focus) or Civil Engineering (with a structural or site development focus) from an accredited university
  • At least 3 years of relevant substation design experience after graduation
  • EIT license in Texas, or ability to obtain within 12 months (preferred)
  • PE license in Texas, or ability to obtain within 12 months (preferred)
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to collaborate closely with engineering and design team members
  • Willingness to travel as needed
  • Strong sense of accountability and attention to detail in work quality
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or MicroStation, along with Microsoft Office
  • Self-motivated and able to take initiative
  • Capable of managing multiple projects at once
  • Able to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Physically able to lift up to 30 lbs regularly
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
