Substation Engineer
Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform detailed engineering and design work for substation projects, covering everything from initial concept through construction, for systems ranging from 4kV to 345kV
- Handle relaying, protection, and control system design
- Complete structural, civil/site, and foundation design associated with projects
- Develop and update design drawings and documentation, including one-line and three-line diagrams, control schematics, wiring diagrams, relay panel layouts, specifications, and cable/conduit routing and sizing, as well as bills of materials
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with project managers, clients, and other stakeholders
- Develop project scopes, schedules, and budgets, and ensure deliverables stay on track
- Take on responsibilities as a project engineer or project manager when needed
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (preferably with a power focus) or Civil Engineering (with a structural or site development focus) from an accredited university
- At least 3 years of relevant substation design experience after graduation
- EIT license in Texas, or ability to obtain within 12 months (preferred)
- PE license in Texas, or ability to obtain within 12 months (preferred)
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to collaborate closely with engineering and design team members
- Willingness to travel as needed
- Strong sense of accountability and attention to detail in work quality
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or MicroStation, along with Microsoft Office
- Self-motivated and able to take initiative
- Capable of managing multiple projects at once
- Able to work independently as well as part of a team
- Physically able to lift up to 30 lbs regularly
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
