Controls Technician - Building Automation (BAS)
Location: Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW), TX (Field-Based)
Overview
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Controls Technician to support Building Automation System (BAS) projects across the DFW metroplex. This role is responsible for installing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintaining control systems that optimize building performance, energy efficiency, and occupant comfort.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with HVAC controls, strong technical troubleshooting skills, and a solid understanding of automation systems in commercial or industrial facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, wire, and commission Building Automation Systems (BAS) including controllers, sensors, actuators, and panels.
- Perform system startup, checkout, and functional testing of HVAC control systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to BAS hardware, software, and network communications.
- Read and interpret electrical diagrams, control drawings, and sequences of operation.
- Work with engineers and programmers to verify system performance and implement design changes.
- Configure and calibrate field devices (sensors, valves, dampers, VFDs).
- Support integration of BAS systems using protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, and LonWorks.
- Perform routine maintenance, system upgrades, and preventative service.
- Document work performed, including commissioning reports and service logs.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and company procedures.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or technical degree in HVAC, Electrical, or Controls-related field.
- 3+ years of experience working with Building Automation Systems or HVAC controls.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC equipment and controls (AHUs, VAVs, chillers, boilers).
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and control schematics.
- Hands-on experience with BAS platforms (e.g., Siemens, Johnson Controls, Schneider Electric, Honeywell, Tridium Niagara).
- Familiarity with low-voltage wiring and control panels.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally within the DFW area.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Niagara N4 or similar front-end platforms.
- Basic programming or graphics experience within BAS systems.
- Knowledge of networking and IP-based control systems.
- Experience working in commercial buildings, healthcare, education, or data centers.
- OSHA certification or strong safety background.
