Roadway Engineer

Location: Atlanta, GA
Job Type: Full-Time

About the Opportunity

We are seeking a Roadway Engineer to join a growing transportation team in Atlanta, Georgia. This individual will support the planning, design, and delivery of roadway and highway infrastructure projects for state, municipal, and private-sector clients. The ideal candidate will have experience working on transportation projects and be passionate about contributing to the development of critical infrastructure throughout Georgia and the Southeast.

Responsibilities

  • Develop roadway design plans for transportation projects ranging from local road improvements to major highway expansions.
  • Prepare construction documents, engineering reports, technical specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Perform geometric design, roadway modeling, drainage coordination, and utility coordination.
  • Utilize OpenRoads Designer, MicroStation, and other design software to develop project deliverables.
  • Coordinate with project managers, clients, subconsultants, and regulatory agencies.
  • Support GDOT projects and ensure compliance with applicable design standards and specifications.
  • Participate in project meetings, client presentations, and design reviews.
  • Assist with quality control reviews and provide technical support throughout project lifecycles.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team development as experience grows.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • 3+ years of roadway design experience.
  • Experience with OpenRoads Designer and MicroStation.
  • Knowledge of GDOT design standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.

Preferred

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Georgia or ability to obtain through reciprocity.
  • Experience managing tasks or leading portions of transportation projects.
  • Familiarity with design-build projects.
  • Experience working directly with GDOT, counties, municipalities, or transportation agencies.
  • Knowledge of drainage design and utility coordination.

  • GEOPAK (preferred)
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Transportation design standards and specifications
