Wastewater Treatment Process Mechanical Engineer

About the role
Our client is seeking a Water/Wastewater Process Mechanical Engineer to support the planning, design and delivery of municipal treatment facilities and associated infrastructure across Virginia. This is an opportunity to work on essential water and wastewater projects with long term stability, strong technical leadership and a collaborative team environment.
Key responsibilities
- Support the evaluation, planning and design of water and wastewater treatment facilities and process mechanical systems
- Develop plans, technical specifications and cost estimates for pumping stations, treatment processes and related infrastructure
- Perform hydraulic calculations, equipment selection and system sizing
- Assist with permitting, regulatory coordination and project development activities
- Provide construction phase services including shop drawing review, field observations and contractor coordination
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects on time and within budget
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil or Chemical Engineering from an ABET accredited program
- 5 to 15 years of experience in process mechanical or piping design within water or wastewater projects
- Strong understanding of fluid mechanics, treatment processes and mechanical systems
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Team oriented mindset with strong attention to detail
Preferred qualifications
- Professional Engineer license in Virginia or ability to obtain
- Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline
- Experience with 3D modeling tools such as Revit
- Exposure to water and wastewater treatment plant design and construction
