Position Summary:
Our client is seeking an experienced Estimator to support contract proposal estimates across one or more construction disciplines. This role will be responsible for reviewing plans and specifications, preparing takeoffs, organizing vendor and subcontractor pricing, and supporting the full bid process.
The position is well suited to someone with a construction background, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work closely with estimating, operations, and project teams. The role can be based out of either the Cleveland or Columbus office.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review drawings, proposal documents, and specifications to understand project scope
- Prepare detailed takeoffs and assist in building complete project estimates
- Request, organize, review, and log subcontractor and supplier quotes
- Maintain accurate estimate backup, pricing information, and working bid documents
- Keep vendor and subcontractor contact information organized and up to date
- Participate in bid reviews, project handoff meetings, and owner discussions as needed
- Visit project sites to better understand construction methods, sequencing, and field conditions
- Support post-bid analysis, including bid tabs and estimate reviews
- Assist with cost control setup and estimate-to-project transition after award
- Stay current with estimating software, tools, and technology used by the team
- Support other estimating and preconstruction team members as needed
- Complete additional estimating-related tasks as assigned by leadership
Qualifications:
- 4+ years of construction experience, ideally with exposure to estimating or preconstruction
- Bachelor's degree preferred, but equivalent construction experience will be considered
- Strong math, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and bid documents
- Understanding of estimating methods, cost control, and project sequencing
- Ability to think through project schedules, phasing, and construction approach
- Comfort working with computerized cost data and estimating systems
- Experience with Microsoft 365 required
- Familiarity with HCSS HeavyBid is a plus
- Strong organization and time management skills
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Team-focused mindset with the ability to build strong working relationships
- Willingness to learn new software and continue developing technical skills
