Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Federal Construction Project Manager to oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of federal construction projects throughout the United States. This position is primarily office-based, with periodic travel to active project sites for meetings, inspections, client coordination, and project oversight.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background managing federal construction projects for agencies such as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), National Park Service (NPS), or other federal entities. Experience managing projects under surety oversight, takeover agreements, completion contracts, or troubled-project environments is highly desirable.
This role offers the opportunity to work closely with operations, field teams, subcontractors, and federal clients to successfully deliver complex government construction projects.
Responsibilities
- Manage federal construction projects from preconstruction through closeout.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, forecasts, and procurement plans.
- Coordinate with superintendents, quality control personnel, SSHOs, subcontractors, and design teams.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, contracting officers, and project stakeholders.
- Review contracts, specifications, drawings, and modifications to ensure compliance and successful project execution.
- Monitor project financial performance, including cost tracking, change management, and risk mitigation.
- Lead project meetings and provide regular updates to internal leadership and clients.
- Support subcontractor procurement, buyout, and contract administration activities.
- Conduct site visits as needed to evaluate progress, resolve issues, and support field operations.
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with project requirements, safety standards, and federal regulations.
- Manage project documentation, reporting, correspondence, and closeout activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred.
- 5+ years of experience managing construction projects as a Project Manager or Senior Project Engineer.
- Federal construction experience is strongly preferred.
- Experience with one or more of the following agencies is highly desired:
- U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE)
- U.S. Coast Guard (USCG)
- National Park Service (NPS)
- Department of Defense (DoD)
- Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)
- General Services Administration (GSA)
- Experience working on surety-backed projects, completion contracts, defaults, or turnaround projects is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of federal contracting requirements, specifications, submittals, RFIs, change orders, and quality control processes.
- Proficiency with construction management software and scheduling platforms.
- Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to travel periodically to project sites as required.
Preferred Experience
- Ground-up vertical construction projects.
- Military construction (MILCON) projects.
- Historic renovation or restoration projects.
- National park, federal infrastructure, public works, or secure facility projects.
- Design-build and negotiated federal contracts.
- Managing projects ranging from $5M to $100M+.
