A long‑established metals fabrication firm located south of Boston is seeking a Field Engineer (Construction Surveyor) to join its growing team. With more than 50 years of experience, the firm is recognized for precision, craftsmanship, and innovation, contributing to many notable New England projects, including stadiums, memorials, and major university facilities.
About the Role
The Field Engineer plays a critical role in capturing highly accurate field measurements that directly support the fabrication and installation of custom steel components. This individual will work on active construction sites and within buildings to obtain measurements and produce detailed sketches and as‑built documentation used by the firm's detailing team.
Responsibilities
- Perform field measurements as a survey crew chief (3-5 years preferred), including construction layout and as‑builts.
- Operate Leica Robotic Total Stations with proficiency.
- Use levels, line lasers, tape measures, and hand tools to collect precise measurements.
- Produce accurate as‑built sketches and drawings (AutoCAD or hand‑drawn) for detailers.
- Communicate effectively with project managers, detailers, and field personnel.
- Apply strong analytical thinking and attention to detail to ensure accuracy across all field measurements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in heavy construction or steel‑related work (preferred but not required).
- AutoCAD experience (preferred).
- Experience with Leica BLK360 3D Scanner is a plus.
- Familiarity with Carlson Software and data collectors.
