About the Opportunity

Our client is a specialized power systems and grid advisory organization that supports utilities, independent power producers, renewable developers, storage developers, and infrastructure investors across North America.

As electricity demand continues to grow and new generation resources connect to the grid at unprecedented levels, the organization is expanding its team of technical experts who help clients navigate complex transmission planning and generator interconnection challenges.

This position is ideal for an engineer with deep experience supporting generation interconnection studies and transmission analysis within organized electricity markets. The successful candidate will play a hands-on role in evaluating project feasibility, performing technical studies, interpreting results, and providing strategic guidance to project developers throughout the interconnection process.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead and support generator interconnection and transmission impact studies for utility-scale energy projects.
  • Build, modify, and validate power system models used for load flow, short-circuit, and stability analysis.
  • Perform dynamic simulations and evaluate system performance under a variety of contingency conditions.
  • Review study assumptions, modeling inputs, and technical datasets to ensure consistency and accuracy.
  • Prepare technical analyses that support project development, interconnection strategy, and grid integration planning.
  • Evaluate reactive power requirements, operational performance, and compliance with applicable transmission planning criteria.
  • Support the development of study methodologies, contingency selections, dispatch scenarios, and system modeling assumptions.
  • Work directly with utilities, transmission providers, consultants, and project development teams to resolve technical issues and advance projects through the study process.
  • Identify model deficiencies and recommend practical mitigation measures, equipment modifications, or study refinements.
  • Communicate technical findings through reports, presentations, and client discussions.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Strong hands-on experience using PSSĀ®E.
  • Direct involvement with generator interconnection, transmission planning, or power system studies.
  • Experience performing:
    • Power flow analysis
    • Short-circuit studies
    • Dynamic stability analysis
    • Model validation and troubleshooting
  • Familiarity with large-scale transmission planning models and study case development.
  • Strong understanding of bulk electric system operations and reliability principles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting projects through RTO or ISO interconnection processes.
  • Experience with inverter-based resources, renewable generation, battery storage, or large-load interconnections.
  • Familiarity with dynamic model development, parameter tuning, and user-defined models.
  • Experience evaluating grid impacts and developing mitigation strategies for transmission constraints.
  • Exposure to generator performance testing, model benchmarking, and compliance-related studies.

Who You Are

  • A technically curious engineer who enjoys solving complex grid challenges.
  • Comfortable working independently on sophisticated power system studies.
  • Detail-oriented and analytical, with a strong commitment to technical quality.
  • Able to communicate complex engineering concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Excited by the evolving challenges associated with renewable integration, grid modernization, and large-scale infrastructure development.
