Lead Civil Engineer

Seeking a Lead Civil Engineer to support utility-scale solar, BESS, wind, substation, transmission, and power generation projects. This individual will provide technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle, from early-stage development and permitting through detailed engineering, construction support, and project closeout.

Responsibilities

  • Lead civil engineering and design teams, ensuring quality, schedule, and technical excellence across project deliverables.
  • Partner with project managers to execute projects on time and within budget.
  • Coordinate with electrical, structural, transmission, and construction teams to resolve design challenges.
  • Review and manage work completed by external consultants and contractors.
  • Develop and oversee site layouts, grading plans, earthwork analyses, drainage systems, access roads, and equipment transport routes.
  • Lead civil and structural design efforts for high-voltage substations, including foundations, oil containment systems, control buildings, and cable trench infrastructure.
  • Support transmission line projects through foundation design coordination and site development planning.
  • Review geotechnical reports, survey data, and LiDAR information to support design decisions.
  • Support permitting efforts and regulatory approvals.
  • Provide engineering support during construction, commissioning, and project closeout.
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers while maintaining QA/QC standards.
  • Manage multiple projects and collaborate with geographically dispersed teams.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • 5+ years of civil engineering experience supporting substations, switchyards, transmission, or power infrastructure projects.
  • Experience with utility-scale solar, BESS, substation, and transmission projects.
  • Knowledge of industry standards including ACI, ASCE, ANSI, and IEEE.
  • Experience within the power generation, utility, or renewable energy sectors.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Revit, STAAD.Pro, SAP2000, and Microsoft Office.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Engineering.
  • Consulting engineering experience.
  • Experience supporting high-voltage substation projects up to 765kV.
  • Experience with wind energy and conventional power generation facilities.
  • Strong geotechnical, site development, and multidisciplinary coordination experience.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and mentoring abilities.
