P&C Engineer
Fully Remote | U.S.-Based | PE Preferred
Overview
We are supporting a growing engineering team seeking an experienced Substation Protection & Controls (P&C) Engineer to support utility and substation projects across the U.S. This is a fully remote position with a fast-moving interview process.
This role is open to senior individual contributors and may also be suitable for a Team Lead-level engineer with strong relay settings and mentoring experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop protection and control designs for high-voltage substations (typically 4kV-500kV)
- Perform protective relay settings calculations, coordination studies, and functional testing
- Create and review:
- Protection & control schematics
- Wiring diagrams and panel layouts
- One-lines, three-lines, and AC/DC schematics
- Support utility, transmission, distribution, and renewable interconnection projects
- Review vendor drawings, relay logic, and protection philosophies
- Participate in design reviews, client meetings, and technical discussions
- Provide guidance to junior engineers (for senior / lead-level candidates)
Team Lead Scope (if applicable):
- Technical oversight of P&C design teams
- Mentorship and QA/QC of relay settings and design packages
- Coordination with project managers and clients
- Support work planning, resourcing, and technical standards
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- 5+ years of Substation Protection & Controls experience
- Strong experience with protective relaying and relay settings
- Familiarity with major relay platforms (SEL, ABB, GE, Schweitzer, etc.)
- Experience working with U.S. utilities or utility-scale projects
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license (highly preferred)
- Prior technical lead or mentoring experience
- Experience supporting multiple projects in parallel
- Knowledge of NERC, IEEE, and utility standards
