About the Opportunity
A nationally recognized engineering and consulting firm is seeking a Practice Lead - Water Resources to help drive the continued growth of its Houston operations. This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for an experienced water resources professional who enjoys combining technical expertise, team leadership, client development, and business strategy.
The successful candidate will play a key role in expanding the firm's water resources presence across Texas, leading complex projects, mentoring technical staff, and strengthening relationships with municipal, county, drainage, and state agency clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and grow the Houston Water Resources practice.
- Manage and develop a team of engineers, project managers, and technical staff.
- Drive business development efforts and expand existing client relationships.
- Oversee the delivery of complex hydrology and hydraulics projects.
- Provide technical leadership on flood risk management, drainage, stormwater, and watershed projects.
- Develop strategic growth plans and support regional expansion initiatives.
- Lead project pursuits, proposals, interviews, and contract negotiations.
- Collaborate with leaders across transportation, land development, and water infrastructure groups.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and support succession planning.
- Ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- 12+ years of water resources engineering experience.
- Proven experience leading teams and managing client relationships.
- Strong background in H&H modeling, drainage design, floodplain analysis, and stormwater management.
- Experience with tools such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, InfoWorks ICM, XP-SWMM, or similar.
- Demonstrated success winning and delivering municipal or public-sector projects.
- Strong communication, leadership, and business development skills.
