Senior Technical Specialist - Distributed Energy Resources (DER)
Position Overview
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the electrical design and technical development of renewable energy projects, including solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage systems (BESS).
- Review and oversee engineering drawings, calculations, and power system studies.
- Perform and direct steady-state and dynamic power system analyses.
- Serve as the technical lead for DER projects interconnected at both distribution and transmission voltage levels.
- Support utility-scale renewable projects up to approximately 1,000 MW AC and 2,000 MWh DC.
- Contribute to commercial and industrial energy projects ranging from approximately 100 kW AC to 10 MW AC, including both behind-the-meter and front-of-the-meter applications.
- Coordinate with cross-functional engineering disciplines to ensure complete project delivery and technical accuracy.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to project teams while maintaining engineering quality standards.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in electrical power systems engineering.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Revit.
- Experience performing power system studies using tools such as ETAP and, preferably, OpenDSS, PSCAD, or PSS®E.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
- Demonstrated attention to detail, accuracy, and a structured approach to problem-solving.
- Self-motivated professional with a commitment to technical excellence and continuous learning.
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of applicable NEC, NESC, and IEEE standards.
- Experience with medium-voltage systems, utility interconnections, substations, and protection schemes.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license, particularly in Georgia, North Carolina, or Pennsylvania.
- NABCEP certification or similar renewable energy credentials.
