Sales Director
Overview
A leading organization in the deregulated energy space is seeking a Director of Energy Procurement Sales to lead and develop a team of sales professionals focused on delivering energy solutions to commercial and industrial clients.
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring deep experience in retail energy procurement and a strong track record of managing and scaling high-performing sales teams. The Director will play a key role in shaping sales strategy, coaching team members through complex deal cycles, and driving overall revenue growth.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of energy sales professionals
- Drive accountability, performance, and ongoing professional growth
- Partner with internal stakeholders to recruit and onboard top talent
Sales Strategy & Execution
- Develop and implement sales strategies aligned with business objectives
- Guide the team through complex C&I sales cycles, including pricing strategy and deal structuring
- Support the achievement (and exceeding) of individual and team revenue targets
Performance Management
- Monitor and evaluate team performance using CRM tools and sales metrics
- Provide consistent coaching, feedback, and performance improvement plans where needed
Client Engagement
- Act as a senior escalation point for complex client situations
- Participate in key client meetings and assist in closing strategic deals
- Support the team in building and maintaining long-term customer relationships
Market & Industry Expertise
- Stay current on energy market trends, pricing dynamics, and regulatory developments (e.g., PJM, ERCOT, NYISO, ISO-NE)
- Ensure the team is equipped to advise clients on procurement strategies, risk management, and market volatility
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with internal teams (operations, marketing, product) to enhance the overall client experience and support sales efforts
Qualifications
- 8+ years of direct C&I energy procurement sales experience (electricity and/or natural gas)
- 3+ years of sales management experience, with a proven track record of leading high-performing teams
- Strong understanding of deregulated energy markets and procurement strategies
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex sales cycles and drive consistent revenue growth
- Experience using CRM systems to manage pipeline, reporting, and team performance
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to coach and influence at all levels
