A highly respected, long‑standing heavy civil contractor in the Phoenix market is seeking a Senior Estimator to lead complex bids across transportation and infrastructure projects. This role is ideal for a seasoned estimator who brings deep market knowledge, strong leadership presence, and the ability to drive bid strategy on large and technically challenging work.
Position Overview
The Senior Estimator will take a lead role in estimating major heavy civil pursuits, working closely with executive leadership, operations, and field teams. You'll be responsible not only for pricing work accurately, but for shaping how projects are pursued, scoped, and won in a competitive Arizona market.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead estimating efforts for large, complex heavy civil projects
- Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs, cost models, and bid proposals
- Analyze plans, specifications, delivery methods, and risk factors
- Develop bid strategy, pricing approaches, and subcontractor participation plans
- Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate subcontractor and supplier pricing
- Partner closely with project managers and superintendents to validate means & methods
- Support value engineering, constructability reviews, and cost optimization
- Mentor junior estimators and contribute to continuous improvement of estimating processes
- Present estimates and recommendations to senior leadership
Required Experience
- 8+ years of estimating experience in heavy civil construction
- Strong background estimating some combination of:
- DOT / transportation / roadway projects
- Concrete structures, bridges, and drainage
- Earthwork & mass excavation
- Underground utilities (water, sewer, storm)
- Proven experience leading bids from early pursuit through award
- Deep understanding of construction sequencing, productivity, and risk
- Proficiency with estimating software and advanced takeoff tools
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interface at the executive level
