A respected geotechnical consulting firm is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to help lead and expand its presence in the Salt Lake City market. This is a highly visible opportunity for a seller-doer who enjoys building client relationships, winning work, mentoring staff, and shaping the direction of a growing business.
The ideal candidate is entrepreneurial, well-connected within the Utah market, and motivated by the opportunity to build something rather than simply maintain an existing portfolio. Responsibilities
- Lead business development efforts across the Salt Lake City and broader Utah market
- Build and strengthen relationships with owners, developers, municipalities, contractors, architects, and engineering partners
- Identify, pursue, and secure new project opportunities
- Serve as a senior technical resource on geotechnical engineering projects
- Oversee project delivery, quality control, schedules, and budgets
- Mentor and develop engineers, project managers, and technical staff
- Recruit and help build a high-performing local team
- Represent the firm at industry organizations, conferences, and networking events
- Develop strategic growth plans for the region
- Collaborate with company leadership on long-term market expansion initiatives
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering with a geotechnical emphasis
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- 10+ years of geotechnical consulting experience
- Demonstrated success in client development and business development
- Strong understanding of the Utah geotechnical market
- Experience managing projects, budgets, and technical teams
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to operate in a seller-doer capacity
Preferred Background
- Existing relationships with developers, public agencies, contractors, architects, and consulting firms throughout Utah
- Experience leading a geotechnical practice, office, department, or business unit
- Background in land development, transportation, public infrastructure, higher education, healthcare, industrial, or energy projects
- Experience hiring, mentoring, and growing technical teams
- Track record of generating revenue and expanding client accounts
