A growing engineering and energy consulting organization is seeking a senior-level power systems professional to support large-scale transmission, generation, interconnection, and grid modernization initiatives throughout North America. The firm works with utilities, developers, infrastructure investors, and other industry stakeholders on complex electric system challenges associated with grid expansion and the energy transition.

Position Overview
The Senior Power Systems Planning Engineer will provide technical leadership on transmission planning, grid integration, and system performance studies. The successful candidate will evaluate the impacts of new infrastructure on the electric grid, assess system constraints and opportunities, and communicate study findings to both technical and executive audiences.
This role combines advanced engineering analysis, client-facing consulting, project leadership, and strategic advisory responsibilities. The selected individual will collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to support project development, planning assessments, and investment decision-making efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead technical studies related to transmission planning, grid integration, renewable generation, energy storage, large load connections, and other power infrastructure projects.
- Develop study assumptions, planning scenarios, contingency analyses, and system models.
- Perform or oversee power flow, short-circuit, transfer capability, reliability, and system performance assessments.
- Evaluate transmission constraints, upgrade requirements, congestion risks, and overall system impacts associated with new infrastructure.
- Assess grid readiness for increasing levels of renewable generation, storage deployment, electrification, and load growth.
- Support utility, developer, and infrastructure clients by translating technical findings into actionable recommendations.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and executive-level summaries.
- Present results and recommendations to clients, stakeholders, and project teams.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the growth of internal technical capabilities.
- Participate in strategic initiatives, business development efforts, and proposal support activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related discipline. (Master's preferred.)
- Approximately 10+ years of experience in power system studies, transmission planning, utility planning, grid consulting, system operations, or related areas.
- Demonstrated experience leading complex technical studies and advising project stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of transmission systems, reliability analysis, interconnection considerations, and grid integration challenges.
- Experience using industry-standard power system modeling and simulation tools.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to a variety of audiences.
- Strong leadership, collaboration, and client-facing skills.
Preferred Background
- Experience supporting utility, consulting, developer, or infrastructure-related projects.
- Familiarity with transmission planning and interconnection practices within North American power markets.
- Experience with renewable integration, energy storage, large transmission projects, or emerging grid technologies.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain licensure.
Location & Travel
- Remote within the United States (~25%).
- Periodic travel required for client meetings, project work, and team collaboration.
