Senior Structural Engineer - Hydropower Focus
An established engineering consulting firm is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to support multidisciplinary projects involving dams, hydropower facilities, flood control infrastructure, and other critical water resources assets. This role offers the opportunity to lead technical work, manage projects, and collaborate with clients on complex infrastructure programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform structural analysis, design, evaluation, and rehabilitation of dams, hydraulic structures, and water infrastructure assets.
- Conduct dam safety reviews, inspections, audits, and risk-informed assessments.
- Support projects involving spillways, outlet works, pump stations, culverts, overflow structures, decant systems, and related facilities.
- Lead project planning, execution, scheduling, and coordination across multidisciplinary teams.
- Interface directly with clients, stakeholders, and project teams to provide technical guidance and project updates.
- Participate in field investigations, site inspections, and occasional construction support activities.
- Contribute to business development efforts and maintain strong client relationships within the water resources and hydropower sectors.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a closely related discipline with an emphasis in structural analysis and design.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Approximately 8+ years of structural engineering experience involving dams, hydraulic structures, hydropower facilities, or other heavy civil infrastructure.
- Experience using structural analysis and design software such as RISA 3D, STAAD, MathCAD, or similar programs.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, or equivalent design platforms.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively on multidisciplinary project teams.
- Ability and willingness to travel periodically for project and client needs.
Preferred Experience
- Advanced degree in Structural or Civil Engineering.
- Experience with dam safety programs, inspections, and risk-informed decision-making methodologies.
- Familiarity with hydroelectric generation facilities and dam appurtenant structures.
- Understanding of federal dam safety guidelines and regulatory frameworks.
- Experience performing structural stability evaluations and safety assessments of hydraulic infrastructure.
- Background working for consulting engineering organizations supporting water resources, hydropower, or dam safety programs.
