Survey Crew Chief
We are seeking an experienced Survey Crew Chief to lead field surveying operations for a variety of transportation, land development, utility, municipal, and construction projects. This individual will be responsible for supervising survey crews, operating survey equipment, collecting accurate field data, and ensuring all survey work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and supervise field survey crews on boundary, topographic, ALTA, route, and construction staking surveys.
* Operate and maintain survey equipment including GPS, robotic total stations, levels, and data collectors.
* Collect, verify, and document accurate field data while maintaining quality control standards.
* Interpret survey plans, construction drawings, plats, deeds, legal descriptions, and project specifications.
* Coordinate with Project Surveyors, Engineers, Project Managers, and clients to ensure project objectives are met.
* Perform construction layout and staking for roadway, utility, site development, and infrastructure projects.
* Maintain detailed field notes, survey records, and daily reports.
* Ensure compliance with company safety policies and established surveying procedures.
* Train and mentor junior survey staff and survey technicians.
Qualifications
* 3+ years of surveying experience, preferably with Crew Chief responsibilities.
* Strong knowledge of boundary, topographic, and construction surveying practices.
* Proficiency with Trimble, Leica, Topcon, or similar survey equipment and software.
* Ability to read and interpret plans, plats, legal descriptions, and survey calculations.
* Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
* Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
* SIT certification or progress toward professional licensure (Optional)
* Experience with DOT, transportation, utility, or land development projects
