The Opportunity

A well-established, nationally recognized engineering consulting firm (500+ professionals) is seeking a Bridge Inspection Team Leader to support and expand its bridge inspection practice in Connecticut.

This is a hands-on leadership role supporting high-profile inspection programs for state DOTs, federal agencies, and major rail clients across the U.S. You'll play a key role in planning and executing complex inspections while leading field teams and ensuring compliance with all relevant standards.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys technical problem-solving, field work, and leading teams in a dynamic, travel-oriented environment.


What You'll Do

Field Leadership & Execution

  • Lead and manage bridge and structural inspection field operations
  • Plan inspections by reviewing drawings, reports, and historical data
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop junior inspection staff
  • Develop and implement safety protocols and traffic control plans
  • Ensure compliance with NBIS, FRA, and agency-specific requirements

Technical Inspection Oversight

  • Perform and oversee inspections of complex bridge structures and components
  • Assess structural condition and provide sound engineering judgment
  • Operate specialized access equipment (under-bridge units, lifts, bucket trucks)
  • Document findings through detailed notes, sketches, and photography
  • Prepare clear, accurate, and compliant inspection reports

Client & Project Coordination

  • Coordinate with DOTs, railroads, regulatory agencies, and subcontractors
  • Serve as a key point of contact during inspection projects
  • Maintain strong client relationships and communication
  • Mentor team members and support ongoing training and certification
  • Ensure inspection teams remain compliant with all credential requirements

Travel

  • Significant travel required, including multi-day assignments across the U.S.
  • Occasional international travel opportunities

What You Bring

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (ABET preferred)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • 5+ years of bridge inspection experience
  • Valid driver's license

Certifications

  • FHWA/NHI Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges (130055/130056) + Refresher (130053)
  • Fracture Critical Inspection (130078) preferred
  • OSHA Fall Protection & Confined Space
  • MEWP / Snooper Certification (ANSI 92.22/92.24)
