Are you an experienced transportation construction professional looking to take the next step into a leadership role? A well-established and growing engineering consulting firm is seeking a Lead Construction Inspector to support high-profile roadway and bridge projects across West Michigan.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Lead Construction Inspector, you'll play a key role in ensuring transportation construction projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project plans and specifications.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and mentoring a team of construction inspectors
  • Monitoring contractor activities and verifying compliance with plans, specifications, and contract requirements
  • Maintaining detailed daily documentation of construction activities, manpower, equipment, and project progress
  • Reviewing traffic control operations and identifying potential issues or discrepancies
  • Monitoring erosion and sediment control measures
  • Performing field inspections, sampling, testing, and quality assurance activities
  • Verifying dimensions, quantities, and completed work for payment purposes
  • Conducting survey checks and supporting project documentation efforts
  • Coordinating inspection schedules and ensuring quality standards are maintained throughout construction

What We're Looking For

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 10+ years of construction inspection experience on roadway and/or bridge projects
  • Previous experience supervising and leading inspection staff
  • Strong understanding of transportation construction practices and inspection procedures
  • Current MDOT certifications preferred
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
  • Ability to build strong relationships with contractors, project stakeholders, and team members
  • Valid driver's license and ability to work on active construction sites
  • Passion for field work and willingness to work outdoors in varying conditions
