Certified Asbestos Investigator (NYC DEP CAI)

Location: New York City (5 Boroughs)
Compensation: Up to $110,000 base salary
Schedule: Full-time | Field-based

A well-established environmental consulting firm is seeking a NYC Certified Asbestos Investigator (CAI) to support a high volume of inspection and testing work throughout the buroughs. This is a primarily field-based role with some exposure to project coordination and client interaction.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform asbestos surveys, inspections, and bulk sampling across commercial, institutional, and public-sector buildings throughout NYC
  • Generate ACP-5 forms and supporting documentation in compliance with NYCDEP regulations
  • Maintain and oversee ACP-5 signage requirements and postings throughout project lifecycles
  • Interpret laboratory results and prepare clear, compliant investigation reports
  • Ensure all work aligns with NYCDEP Title 15, NYS ICR 56, and applicable federal regulations
  • Coordinate with project managers, contractors, and clients on scheduling and findings
  • Support light project coordination/PM tasks including client communication and report tracking
  • Conduct site visits across all 5 boroughs (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, Staten Island)

Qualifications

  • Active NYC DEP Certified Asbestos Investigator (CAI)
  • Minimum 3+ years of asbestos investigation experience in NYC
  • Strong experience with ACP-5 filings, signage, and compliance workflows
  • Solid understanding of NYC asbestos regulations and permitting processes
  • Experience performing field sampling, surveys, and report writing
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, field-heavy environment
  • OSHA 30 and additional certifications (Project Monitor, Mold, etc.) are a plus
