The Opportunity
What You'll Do
- Act as a technical expert in EHV transmission‑level voltages, providing insight and guidance across project teams.
- Develop complex EHV engineering calculations that inform risk mitigation strategies and support successful project execution.
- Represent the team's technical capabilities to both internal groups and external clients, helping position future project opportunities.
- Apply advanced engineering methods to refine and expand EHV design standards, tools, and processes.
- Provide direction on engineering practices, design approaches, and industry codes.
- Maintain a high standard of quality by carefully reviewing your own work and mentoring others to uphold rigorous QA/QC principles.
- Translate client objectives into actionable plans that align with broader project priorities.
- Collaborate directly with clients, vendors, and partners to ensure technical alignment throughout project delivery.
- Offer mentorship across disciplines, helping grow technical expertise within the team.
- Lead and support project efforts involving scheduling, budgeting, resource planning, and cross‑functional coordination.
- Partner with proposal teams to define scopes, estimate engineering effort, and outline project schedules.
- Contribute to or lead several major projects at once while maintaining clear, consistent communication.
- Foster strong teamwork and effective information exchange among colleagues and clients.
- Work with knowledge of NERC regional requirements, including PJM, ERCOT, and MISO.
Preferred work locations include:
Phoenix, Dallas, Kansas City, Houston, Ann Arbor, or Raleigh. Relocation to one of these offices is preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as an SME in EHV transmission modeling and simulation.
Provide recommendations and interpretations of EHV study results to help shape project decisions.
Lead the development of detailed computer‑based models for EHV transmission systems.
Perform and oversee a wide variety of power system studies, such as:
Steady‑State & Fault Studies
- Load flow
- Short circuit
EMT & Transient Studies
- Insulation coordination
- Temporary and switching overvoltages
- TRV analysis
- VFT and lightning impacts
Stability & Electromagnetic Studies
- Dynamic stability
- Audible noise
- RI/TVI
- Electric and magnetic field evaluations
- Induced voltage/current assessments
Grounding & Safety
- Grounding system design
- Safety performance evaluations
Use advanced engineering principles to evolve EHV standards and design guidance.
Provide technical oversight on engineering codes, best practices, and design methodologies.
Uphold and promote strong engineering quality and compliance across project teams.
Support multidisciplinary coordination to ensure smooth delivery of complex transmission projects.
Assist with proposal development, including work breakdown structures, estimates, and scheduling.
Manage several major assignments at once while maintaining clear and effective communication.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands‑on experience with power system analysis tools such as PSS®E, TARA, PSLF, PSCAD, PowerWorld, ASPEN OneLiner, CAPE, or similar platforms.
- Background in substation engineering, including conceptual design, physical layouts, protection and control, relay coordination, and related calculations.
- Strong leadership presence and a track record of coaching or mentoring others.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited program.
- At least 5 years of engineering experience in a related field.
Certifications
- Professional Engineer (U.S. PE) license preferred.
