Electrical Engineer

About the Opportunity

A growing renewable energy organization is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to support the design and execution of commercial and industrial solar energy projects. This role offers the opportunity to work on large-scale photovoltaic installations, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to the development of innovative clean energy solutions.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience with solar project design, electrical engineering principles, utility interconnection requirements, and applicable code compliance.

Position Summary

The Electrical Engineer will play a key role in designing commercial and utility-scale solar PV systems ranging from approximately 1 MW to 20 MW. Responsibilities include developing construction-ready drawing packages, performing electrical calculations, supporting project execution teams, coordinating with engineering partners, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the electrical design of rooftop and ground-mounted solar photovoltaic projects.
  • Produce detailed engineering drawing packages using AutoCAD, including site plans, electrical single-line diagrams, grounding details, equipment layouts, and permitting documentation.
  • Perform and review electrical engineering analyses such as voltage drop calculations, short-circuit studies, load flow evaluations, conductor sizing, and equipment ratings.
  • Provide technical expertise related to PV system layouts, module stringing, grounding design, and equipment selection.
  • Collaborate with internal design teams and external engineering partners to develop permit and construction-ready plans.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables comply with NEC requirements, local jurisdictions, and utility interconnection standards.
  • Support the design and integration of battery energy storage systems (BESS), including equipment selection and system configuration.
  • Conduct occasional site visits to evaluate project feasibility, constructability, and interconnection considerations.
  • Coordinate with project managers, architects, professional engineers, and other project stakeholders throughout the design process.
  • Assist procurement and construction teams by developing accurate electrical material takeoffs and bills of materials.
  • Work cross-functionally with operations, project management, business development, and construction teams to improve project outcomes and identify value-engineering opportunities.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a high level of accuracy, organization, and accountability.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum 6 years of electrical engineering experience within construction, energy, infrastructure, or related industries.
  • At least 3 years of experience supporting solar energy projects.
  • Familiarity with EPC, consulting engineering, or Engineer of Record (EOR) environments is highly desirable.
  • EIT certification required; Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel periodically to project sites.
  • Strong understanding of NEC requirements, utility interconnection processes, and electrical design best practices.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and related engineering design software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience with large-scale commercial, industrial, or utility-scale solar projects.
  • Exposure to battery energy storage system (BESS) design and integration.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interface effectively with clients, utilities, contractors, and engineering partners.

Why Join?

  • Contribute to high-impact renewable energy projects.
  • Work alongside experienced engineering and construction professionals.
  • Access opportunities for professional development and career growth.
  • Competitive compensation package with bonus potential and comprehensive benefits.
  • Be part of an organization helping advance the clean energy transition.
