About the Opportunity

A growing civil engineering consulting firm in Houston is seeking a Junior H&H Modeler to join its Water Resources team. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer who is looking to develop technical expertise in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, drainage design, floodplain analysis, and stormwater management projects throughout Texas.

Working alongside experienced Project Managers and Senior Engineers, you will contribute to a wide variety of public and private sector projects, including drainage improvements, flood mitigation studies, watershed planning, transportation drainage, and land development.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for drainage, flood control, and infrastructure projects.
  • Develop and maintain H&H models using software such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, InfoWorks ICM, SWMM, and ArcGIS.
  • Support floodplain mapping, watershed studies, and stormwater master planning efforts.
  • Perform data collection, quality control, and technical calculations.
  • Prepare technical reports, exhibits, drainage studies, and engineering documentation.
  • Coordinate with project teams, clients, and regulatory agencies as required.
  • Assist with permitting and compliance activities related to stormwater and drainage projects.
  • Support senior staff with project delivery and client presentations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 0 to 3 years of experience in water resources, drainage, or H&H modeling.
  • EIT certification or ability to obtain within 12 months preferred.
  • Familiarity with HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWMM, InfoWorks ICM, Civil 3D, or ArcGIS.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Preferred Experience

  • Drainage studies for municipal, transportation, or land development projects.
  • Floodplain analysis and FEMA-related work.
  • GIS mapping and spatial data analysis.
  • Exposure to Texas drainage criteria and stormwater regulations.
