Lead Electrical Engineer, PE | Mission Critical & Complex Building Systems

We're partnering with a well-established, industry-leading design-build organization seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer, PE to support the delivery of mission critical, commercial, institutional, healthcare, and other complex facilities throughout the Chicagoland area. What You'll Be Doing

Technical Leadership

  • Serve as the lead engineer for electrical system design and coordination
  • Oversee the development and review of:
    • Low- and medium-voltage power distribution systems
    • Generator and UPS systems
    • Lighting and lighting controls
    • Fire alarm and life safety systems
    • Grounding and bonding systems
  • Perform and oversee:
    • Short circuit studies
    • Coordination studies
    • Arc flash analyses
    • Load calculations
    • Cable ampacity and fault current studies
  • Review and produce one-line diagrams, specifications, equipment schedules, floor plans, and Revit/BIM deliverables
  • Ensure designs meet all applicable codes, standards, and constructability requirements

Team & Project Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of electrical engineers
  • Provide technical guidance, coaching, and performance feedback
  • Manage project priorities, schedules, budgets, and quality objectives
  • Conduct QA/QC reviews and uphold engineering best practices
  • Assist with resource planning and workload forecasting

Client & Project Coordination

  • Serve as a trusted technical resource for clients and project stakeholders
  • Lead design meetings and communicate complex technical concepts effectively
  • Coordinate closely with multidisciplinary design and construction teams
  • Support proposals, scope development, and preconstruction efforts

Construction Support

  • Conduct site visits and field investigations
  • Review submittals and respond to RFIs
  • Support commissioning, startup, and project closeout activities

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • PE License preferred
  • 7+ years of experience designing electrical systems for commercial, institutional, mission critical, or complex building projects
  • Data center experience strongly preferred
  • Proven experience leading engineering teams and multidisciplinary projects
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • NEC
    • NFPA
    • IBC
    • IECC
    • Local electrical codes
  • Proficiency with:
    • Revit
    • AutoCAD
    • SKM, ETAP, or similar power system analysis software
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
