Mechanical Engineer - Modular Mission‑Critical Infrastructure

Location: Richmond, VA area (manufacturing campus)
Travel: Domestic & international (short‑term assignments)

About the Opportunity

Our client is a global leader in mission‑critical and data center infrastructure, operating a rapidly growing modular manufacturing campus supporting complex, high‑performance facilities worldwide. As part of continued expansion, they are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join their Critical Infrastructure Solutions team, supporting the design, execution, and commissioning of modular data center and critical infrastructure systems.

This role offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of engineering, manufacturing, and field execution, contributing to scalable, repeatable solutions deployed globally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a mechanical Subject Matter Expert for HVAC, plumbing, pumping, and related mechanical systems
  • Establish design standards, specifications, and engineering criteria for modular and site‑based projects
  • Perform site surveys, system calculations, equipment selection, and detailed mechanical design
  • Develop sustainable, high‑performance systems for air and hydronic distribution, central plants, and building management
  • Produce construction drawings and specifications in compliance with applicable codes and standards
  • Support fabrication, construction, and commissioning activities, resolving technical issues as needed
  • Develop sequences of operation, compliance matrices, and project support documentation
  • Participate in Pre‑Installation Testing and Checkout (PITCO), system integration testing, and equipment build‑outs
  • Support mechanical project scope, schedule, budget, and cross‑discipline coordination
  • Perform QA/QC reviews of mechanical documentation and designs
  • Contribute to new product evaluations and continuous improvement initiatives

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible mechanical engineering experience
  • Experience with data centers, mission‑critical facilities, or complex building infrastructure
  • Strong working knowledge of ASHRAE standards and SMACNA manuals
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM workflows
  • Experience supporting construction and commissioning activities
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Secret Security Clearance
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and problem‑solving skills
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license (or actively pursuing)

Preferred Experience

  • Trane TRACE and/or Carrier HAP
  • LEED accreditation
  • Experience in modular, prefabricated, or design‑build environments
  • Exposure to government or regulated facilities
  • Additional certifications (CEM, CLEP, DBIA) a plus
