The Opportunity
We are seeking a NERC Compliance Engineer with experience in disturbance monitoring, protection systems, and reliability compliance programs. This individual will support the assessment, implementation, and continuous improvement of compliance programs for generation, storage, and transmission-connected assets.
The successful candidate will evaluate disturbance monitoring systems, identify compliance risks, develop remediation strategies, and help clients build sustainable compliance programs aligned with applicable reliability standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct technical assessments of generating and transmission-connected facilities against disturbance monitoring and event reporting requirements.
- Evaluate disturbance monitoring equipment and infrastructure, including:
- Digital Fault Recorders (DFRs)
- Sequence of Events Recorders (SERs)
- Fault recording systems
- Event monitoring and associated communications systems
- Identify compliance gaps and develop practical corrective action recommendations.
- Prepare technical documentation, compliance evidence packages, and audit-ready records.
- Support the implementation and maintenance of compliance management programs.
- Partner with engineering, operations, compliance, and asset management teams to address reliability and regulatory requirements.
- Provide technical guidance related to protection systems, event recording requirements, and disturbance monitoring practices.
- Support compliance evaluations involving additional reliability standards and industry requirements.
- Contribute to process improvements, automation initiatives, and internal best practices that enhance the efficiency of compliance programs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related technical discipline.
- Experience supporting NERC compliance programs affecting generation, storage, transmission, or interconnected power facilities.
- Strong understanding of disturbance monitoring requirements and reliability compliance obligations.
- Experience evaluating fault recording equipment, event recording systems, and disturbance monitoring infrastructure.
- Familiarity with protection and control systems utilized in utility and power generation environments.
- Excellent written communication, technical documentation, and analytical skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting renewable energy facilities, battery energy storage systems (BESS), or utility-scale generation assets.
- Knowledge of additional NERC Protection and Control (PRC) standards and related compliance requirements.
- Experience supporting regulatory audits, self-certifications, compliance reviews, or mitigation activities.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
