Principal Environmental Consultant (LSRP)

Location: Princeton, NJ (Hybrid)

Are you an experienced environmental consulting leader looking to grow a market, expand client relationships, and build a high-performing team? An established environmental consulting firm is seeking a Principal Engineer, Environmental Scientist, or Geologist (LSRP) to help drive growth across New Jersey.

This is a high-impact seller-doer leadership role for someone who combines strong technical expertise with proven business development success. You'll have the opportunity to shape regional growth strategy, strengthen existing client partnerships, win new work, and lead complex environmental projects, all while mentoring the next generation of consulting professionals.

The Opportunity

As a Principal Consultant, you will serve as a trusted advisor to clients while leading business growth initiatives throughout the region. This role offers significant autonomy to develop market strategy, pursue new opportunities, and expand key accounts across industrial, commercial, government, energy, legal, insurance, and financial sectors.

You'll be backed by experienced technical professionals and multidisciplinary resources while playing a key role in the continued expansion of the business.

Responsibilities

Business Development & Client Growth

  • Develop and execute regional growth strategies.
  • Build and maintain relationships with existing and prospective clients.
  • Identify, qualify, and pursue new business opportunities.
  • Lead proposal development, pricing strategy, and client presentations.
  • Expand key accounts through cross-selling and long-term partnership development.

Technical & Project Leadership

  • Serve as a retained LSRP and trusted advisor to clients.
  • Provide technical and regulatory guidance related to site remediation and compliance.
  • Lead preparation and submission of ISRA, Spill Act, and other regulatory documents and applications.
  • Manage complex environmental projects, ensuring quality, schedule, budget, and client satisfaction objectives are met.
  • Lead technical discussions and regulatory coordination with NJDEP and other stakeholders.

Team Leadership

  • Mentor, coach, and develop technical staff.
  • Support recruiting and team growth initiatives.
  • Enhance project delivery processes and business development best practices.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, high-performance culture.

Qualifications

  • LSRP license required.
  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Geology, Chemistry, or a related discipline.
  • Professional licensure such as PE, PG, or equivalent preferred.
  • 20+ years of environmental consulting experience with increasing technical, project management, and leadership responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated success generating and growing client relationships, ideally with an established network in New Jersey.
  • Experience managing large and complex remediation, compliance, and environmental consulting programs.
  • Strong understanding of NJDEP regulations, guidance documents, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage project financial performance.
