Regional Water Team Leader
A well-established engineering and design consultancy is looking for a senior water industry leader to spearhead the growth of its Drinking Water and Wastewater practice across North Carolina.
This is a strategic leadership opportunity for an experienced engineer who wants to influence the direction of a growing regional business, build client relationships, mentor future leaders, and play a key role in delivering critical infrastructure projects that support communities throughout the state.
You'll be responsible for driving market growth, overseeing project delivery, maintaining technical excellence, and expanding a high-performing team focused on water and wastewater infrastructure.
What You'll Be Doing
As the Regional Water Team Leader, you'll serve as both a technical authority and business leader, helping shape the future of the firm's water practice throughout North Carolina.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and growing drinking water and wastewater services across the state
- Building and maintaining relationships with municipalities, utilities, public agencies, and private-sector clients
- Identifying and pursuing new business opportunities, proposals, interviews, and strategic partnerships
- Serving as Principal-in-Charge, Project Director, or Senior Technical Advisor on major infrastructure programmes
- Overseeing planning, design, permitting, and construction support for:
- Water distribution systems
- Wastewater collection systems
- Pump stations
- Force mains
- Utility rehabilitation projects
- Capital improvement programmes
- Supporting utility master planning, asset management, hydraulic modelling, capacity studies, and funding initiatives
- Mentoring and developing engineers, project managers, and technical staff
- Managing project performance, staffing, quality, risk, and client satisfaction
- Representing the organisation across industry associations, conferences, and stakeholder events throughout North Carolina
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, Water Resources, Biosystems Engineering, or a related field
- Professional Engineer (PE) licence, or ability to obtain North Carolina licensure
- 10+ years of water and wastewater consulting or utility engineering experience
- Proven success leading projects, managing clients, and developing teams
- Strong understanding of North Carolina utility regulations, permitting, and funding programmes
- Experience overseeing multidisciplinary project delivery
- Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to balance technical leadership, business development, project management, and team growth
Highly Desirable Experience
- Existing relationships within North Carolina municipalities, utilities, and public agencies
- Utility master planning and asset management
- Water and wastewater system modelling
- Pump station and force main design
- Inflow and infiltration reduction programmes
- Capital improvement planning
- Experience building, growing, or scaling a regional practice or service line
