Roadway Designer | Boca Raton
Position Overview
We are seeking a Roadway Designer to support the planning, design, and production of transportation projects throughout FDOT District 6. This individual will work alongside experienced engineers and project managers to develop roadway design plans for a variety of municipal, county, and state transportation improvement projects.
The ideal candidate will have experience with FDOT standards and procedures and be proficient in OpenRoads Designer (ORD). An Engineer Intern (EI) certification is preferred but not required.
Responsibilities
- Develop roadway design plans for FDOT and local agency transportation projects.
- Prepare geometric layouts, alignments, profiles, cross sections, and design calculations.
- Utilize OpenRoads Designer (ORD) to create and modify roadway models and construction plans.
- Assist with roadway design tasks through various project phases, from concept through final design.
- Coordinate with engineers, CADD technicians, and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Prepare quantities, cost estimates, and supporting design documentation.
- Ensure designs comply with FDOT standards, manuals, and client requirements.
- Support permit applications, technical reports, and project deliverables as needed.
- Participate in field reviews and coordination meetings.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
- EI certification preferred but not required.
- Experience working on FDOT roadway projects, particularly within District 6, is preferred.
- Proficiency with OpenRoads Designer (ORD) is required.
- Knowledge of FDOT Design Manual (FDM), Standard Plans, and applicable design criteria.
- Experience with MicroStation and roadway plan production.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
Preferred Experience
- 1+ years of roadway design experience.
- Exposure to urban roadway, interchange, complete streets, or corridor improvement projects.
- Familiarity with FDOT project delivery processes and local South Florida agency standards.
