Senior Power System Protection Engineer

We're seeking an experienced Power System Protection Engineer to join a growing team focused on the reliability and resiliency of the North American electric grid.
This position is ideal for someone who is deeply experienced in protective relaying, relay settings development, and protection coordination studies and can immediately contribute with minimal ramp-up time.
Unlike traditional Protection & Control design roles, this position focuses on the engineering analysis, studies, and settings that ensure reliable operation of transmission and generation assets.

What You'll Do

  • Develop protective relay settings for transmission, generation, and substation facilities.
  • Perform protection coordination and short circuit studies for systems up to 500kV.
  • Utilize ASPEN OneLiner and/or Electrocon CAPE software on a daily basis.
  • Develop protection philosophies and design basis documentation.
  • Configure and validate relay setting files using SEL AcSELerator and GE Enervista.
  • Analyze system disturbances and recommend protection improvements.
  • Support commissioning and troubleshooting activities.
  • Serve as a technical lead on power system protection projects.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance across project teams.
  • Interface directly with utility and industrial clients.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 8+ years of experience in power system protection engineering.
  • Hands-on experience performing:
    • Relay settings development
    • Protection coordination studies
    • Short circuit analysis
    • Protective relaying calculations
  • Proficiency with ASPEN OneLiner and/or Electrocon CAPE.
  • Experience supporting electric utility, transmission, generation, or EPC consulting projects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PE License.
  • SEL relay programming and settings development.
  • GE Enervista experience.
  • NERC/FERC compliance knowledge.
  • IEC 61850 experience.
  • Transmission system experience through 500kV.

Compensation

Base Salary: $155,000 - $230,000
Plus annual performance bonus and comprehensive benefits package.
