Senior Environmental Engineer/Geologist

About the Opportunity

A well-established environmental consulting and remediation firm is seeking a Senior Environmental Engineer or Senior Geologist to support complex site characterization, remediation, and regulatory compliance projects throughout California.

This position is ideal for a technical leader with a strong background in environmental remediation, contaminated site investigation, project management, and California regulatory programs. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing projects from initial investigation through remediation and regulatory closure while serving as a trusted advisor to clients and regulators.

Candidates may come from either an engineering or geology background.

• Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Geologist (PG) licensure is highly preferred.
• Candidates possessing an EIT or GIT with a confirmed exam date and active path toward licensure may also be considered.

Responsibilities

• Manage environmental investigation and remediation projects from proposal through site closure.
• Lead project teams conducting:
  • Soil investigations
  • Groundwater investigations and monitoring
  • Soil vapor investigations
  • Vapor intrusion assessments
  • Remedial system implementation and optimization
• Develop site characterization programs to define the nature and extent of contamination.
• Evaluate geological, hydrogeological, and environmental data to support remedial decision-making.
• Develop conceptual site models and remediation strategies.
• Prepare, review, and approve:
  • Work Plans
  • Site Investigation Reports
  • Remedial Action Plans
  • Monitoring Reports
  • Feasibility Studies
  • Closure Reports
  • Regulatory correspondence
• Interface directly with clients, contractors, attorneys, and regulatory agencies.
• Manage project budgets, schedules, invoicing, forecasting, and scope execution.
• Support remediation system design, corrective action implementation, and long-term site management.
• Mentor junior engineers, geologists, and environmental scientists.
• Participate in proposal preparation, client development, and business growth initiatives.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in:

  • Environmental Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Geological Engineering
  • Geology
  • Hydrogeology
  • Earth Sciences
  • Or a closely related discipline eligible for professional licensure

• Minimum 8 years of environmental consulting, remediation, geology, hydrogeology, or environmental engineering experience.

• Strong knowledge of California environmental regulations and regulatory agencies.

• Experience managing environmental projects including budgets, schedules, deliverables, and client relationships.

• Excellent technical writing and report preparation skills.

• Strong understanding of:

  • Soil contamination
  • Groundwater contamination
  • Soil vapor and vapor intrusion

  • Remediation planning and implementation
  • Regulatory closure strategies

• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining technical quality and client satisfaction.

Preferred Qualifications

• California PE or PG license.
• California EIT or GIT actively pursuing licensure with a scheduled examination date.
• Experience with:
  • Chlorinated solvents (PCE, TCE, and daughter products)
  • Petroleum hydrocarbons
  • Industrial contaminant releases
  • Complex groundwater plume investigations
  • Contaminant fate and transport analyses
• Experience working with:
  • DTSC
  • Regional Water Quality Control Boards (RWQCB)
  • Local oversight agencies
• Familiarity with remediation technologies such as:
  • Soil Vapor Extraction (SVE)
  • Air Sparging
  • In-Situ Chemical Oxidation (ISCO)
  • In-Situ Bioremediation (ISB)
  • Multi-Phase Extraction (MPE)
  • Groundwater extraction and treatment systems
