About the Opportunity
A leading mechanical contractor in the Raleigh market is seeking an experienced Senior HVAC Estimator to join its preconstruction team. This individual will play a critical role in securing and delivering large-scale commercial and industrial projects by preparing accurate cost estimates, developing bid strategies, and collaborating closely with project management, operations, and executive leadership.
This is an excellent opportunity for an estimator looking to work on high-profile projects across sectors such as healthcare, data centers, life sciences, higher education, manufacturing, and commercial construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed HVAC estimates for commercial and industrial mechanical construction projects.
- Review drawings, specifications, and project documents to determine scope and pricing requirements.
- Perform quantity take-offs and develop labor, material, subcontractor, and equipment pricing.
- Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations.
- Lead bid reviews and present estimating strategies to senior leadership.
- Identify value engineering opportunities and cost-saving solutions.
- Maintain and develop relationships with general contractors, owners, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Collaborate with project management teams during project handoff and preconstruction phases.
- Analyze historical project data and market trends to improve estimating accuracy.
- Assist with budgeting, conceptual estimates, design-build proposals, and negotiated work.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of HVAC estimating experience within the mechanical construction industry.
- Proven experience estimating commercial HVAC projects ranging from $1M to $50M+.
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems including ductwork, piping, chillers, boilers, VRF, controls, and related mechanical systems.
- Experience with design-build and plan-and-spec projects.
- Proficiency with estimating software such as Trimble Autobid, QuoteSoft, FastEST, Bluebeam, or similar platforms.
- Strong knowledge of labor productivity, material pricing, and construction means and methods.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to mentor junior estimators and contribute to team development.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- Experience estimating healthcare, life sciences, industrial, mission-critical, or data center projects.
- Local knowledge of the North Carolina construction market.
- LEED, ASHE, or industry-related certifications are a plus.
