Position Overview
The Structural Project Engineer will play a key role in the planning, design, and execution of residential structural engineering projects. This position offers a blend of technical design work, project coordination, and client interaction. The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys seeing projects through from concept to construction and is eager to grow into a senior technical or project leadership role over time.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform structural analysis and design for residential structures using wood-frame, light-gauge steel, concrete, and steel systems
- Prepare detailed engineering calculations, construction drawings, and specifications for permitting and construction
- Manage assigned projects from initial design through construction, including scheduling, coordination, and quality control
- Coordinate with architects, designers, contractors, and clients to ensure designs align with project goals and budgets
- Review architectural drawings and provide structural input early in the design process
- Respond to plan check comments, RFIs, and construction-phase inquiries in a timely and professional manner
- Conduct site visits as needed to verify existing conditions, review construction progress, and support field issues
- Apply applicable codes and standards, including the California Building Code, ASCE 7, ACI, AISC, and NDS
- Participate in internal QA/QC reviews to maintain high technical and documentation standards
- Support and mentor junior engineers and designers as the team grows
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering
- 3-7+ years of professional experience in structural engineering, with a strong emphasis on residential projects
- EIT certification required; PE license preferred or actively working toward licensure
- Experience working in California and familiarity with local jurisdictions and permitting processes
- Proficiency with structural analysis and design software such as ETABS, RISA, SAP2000, or similar tools
- Experience producing construction documents using AutoCAD and/or Revit
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact confidently with clients and project partners
- Highly organized, self-motivated, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously
