Survey Team Lead - Texas Operations

Build Something That Lasts

An established multidisciplinary consulting practice is expanding its presence in Texas and is seeking an experienced Survey Team Lead to launch and grow a dedicated surveying operation. This role offers the rare opportunity to shape a regional surveying group from the ground up while supporting major transportation and infrastructure projects throughout the state.

The ideal candidate is a licensed survey professional who enjoys balancing hands‑on technical work with leadership, mentoring, and business development. This position blends field expertise, office coordination, and strategic growth responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct and supervise field survey activities with a strong focus on precision, safety, and efficiency
  • Plan, staff, and schedule survey projects while managing equipment and personnel resources
  • Analyze deeds, plats, easements, and engineering plans to determine accurate property boundaries
  • Perform and check advanced survey computations for boundary, topographic, construction staking, and control work
  • Review survey data, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, client standards, and internal QA/QC procedures
  • Coordinate closely with engineers, project managers, contractors, and clients to integrate survey deliverables into design and construction workflows
  • Develop standardized survey processes, workflows, and quality-control practices for a growing team
  • Train, mentor, and support junior surveyors and field crews to drive professional development
  • Prepare and review plats, exhibits, reports, and survey documentation for agency and client use
  • Assist with project estimating, fee development, and proposal support
  • Cultivate relationships with state agencies, municipalities, counties, and local partners to support long-term growth in Texas

Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Active Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license in Texas or ability to obtain shortly
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in land surveying
  • Strong background in boundary, topographic, construction, and control surveys
  • Proficient with robotic total stations, RTK GPS systems, and modern data collectors
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D; GIS experience preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to lead field crews and manage multiple concurrent projects
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences

What Sets This Role Apart

  • Opportunity to build and lead a new regional surveying practice, not step into a pre-established one
  • Direct influence on team culture, technical standards, and operational approach
  • Projects that contribute to long-term public infrastructure and community development
  • Flexible blend of office, field, and hybrid work depending on project needs
  • Employee-focused environment with a strong emphasis on professional growth and ownership mindset

Compensation & Benefits Overview

  • Competitive base pay with performance-based incentives
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Retirement plan with company contributions and ownership participation
  • Paid time off, holidays, parental leave, and volunteer time
  • Continuing education, licensing support, and tuition assistance
  • Wellness initiatives and leadership development resources

Physical & Field Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Capability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Comfortable walking, standing, bending, kneeling, and climbing for extended periods
