Job Summary

This role works under direct supervision to take and/or direct timely and appropriate real-time actions to maintain the reliability of the Bulk Electric System during both normal and emergency conditions. Critical reliability-related tasks are performed under the direct, continuous supervision and observation of a Transmission System Operator, Senior Transmission System Operator, or Supervisor of Electric Transmission Operations.

Responsibilities include:

• Monitoring elements of the bulk electric system and responding to status changes.
• Responding to disturbances, emergency events, weather impacts, and other system condition changes, while making appropriate internal and external notifications.
• Monitoring voltage and reactive power flows and utilizing reactive resources to maintain voltage schedules.
• Preparing switching orders that isolate work areas and establish safe zones of protection for field personnel and equipment.
• Providing verbal instructions to field personnel engaged in switching operations and making appropriate notifications.
• Controlling transmission and distribution equipment using Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems as needed.
• Monitoring and regulating power flows among interconnected entities.
• Logging system activities and maintaining accurate operational records.

Required

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

• 0-3 years of related electrical or mechanical experience in a utility, industrial, or production environment.
  • A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year toward the qualifications.
  • A master's degree can count as one year of experience.

This position requires the ability to operate a company vehicle or operate a vehicle on the company's behalf. In this role, you will be expected to report and respond to emergency storm-related events. The work schedule requires 12-hour rotating shifts.

Preferred

Beginner-Level Knowledge Of

• NERC and PJM regulations
• Electrical principles (flow of electricity, magnetism, inductance, capacitance, direct and alternating currents, etc.)
• Electrical control systems (motors, starters, relays, overloads, control circuits, etc.)
• Substation equipment and operations
• Power station operations and generation

Education Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in a technical discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, etc.)

Preferred Disciplines:

• Electrical Technology
• Industrial Technology
• Mechanical Technology

OR

Associate's Degree in a technical discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, etc.) and 2 years of related experience

OR

4+ years of related experience

December 2026 graduates may be considered for this position.

Licenses, Certifications, or Qualifications

• Must obtain NERC Certification (Transmission Operator or Reliability Coordinator) and PJM Certification (Transmission System Operator) within 6 months of start date.
• No more than 4 total test attempts are permitted to obtain both NERC and PJM certifications.
• Must complete the company's System Operations-defined Operator Qualification Program within 18 months of start date.

Working Conditions

• Office Work Environment: 76-100%
• Travel: Up to 25%

Additional Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to report to work within 60 minutes under normal driving and traffic conditions.

Testing Requirements

This position requires recommended test results from the EEI System Operator/Power Dispatcher (SOPD II) Aptitude Test, administered during the pre-employment process.
