Water Resources Director of Engineering
Our client is an employee-owned engineering and environmental consulting firm with a well-established reputation for delivering complex infrastructure, stormwater, watershed, stream restoration, and environmental projects across the United States. With a strong multidisciplinary platform and significant investment in technical excellence, they are seeking a Water Resources Director of Engineering to lead and continue growing a high-performing water resources practice.

The successful candidate will play a key role in business development, staff leadership, client relationship management, and overall practice growth.
The water resources team delivers a diverse portfolio of projects including watershed planning, stormwater management, stream and river restoration, flood mitigation, floodplain analysis, FEMA studies, dam safety, green infrastructure, municipal stormwater compliance, and hydrologic and hydraulic modelling assignments for public and private sector clients.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership for the water resources practice, including growth planning, staffing, and business development initiatives
- Lead, mentor, and develop multidisciplinary teams of engineers, scientists, and technical professionals
- Serve as a senior technical resource for complex hydrologic, hydraulic, stormwater, stream restoration, and flood mitigation projects
- Build and maintain strong relationships with municipal, state, federal, and private-sector clients
- Identify and secure new business opportunities while supporting key proposal and pursuit efforts
- Guide project delivery, quality management, budgeting, and resource allocation across the practice
- Oversee technical reviews and ensure projects are completed to a high standard of quality
- Collaborate with other engineering and environmental disciplines across the organisation to provide integrated client solutions
- Support succession planning and the long-term development of future technical and operational leaders
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline
- Professional Engineer (PE) licence required
- 15+ years of progressive water resources engineering experience
- Demonstrated experience leading teams, managing clients, and growing business operations
- Strong background in stormwater management, watershed studies, H&H modelling, floodplain analysis, stream restoration, or related water resources disciplines
- Proven success managing large and complex projects and programmes
- Strong understanding of regulatory permitting and environmental compliance processes
- Excellent communication, leadership, and relationship management skills
