Senior Civil Engineer - Land Development

Charlotte, NC | Full-Time

An established engineering consultancy is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to lead its Site Engineering Department in the Charlotte, NC office. This leadership role offers the opportunity to oversee a diverse portfolio of land development projects across sectors such as commercial, industrial, health-care, senior living, residential, and higher education.

This is a strategic position for an experienced professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about delivering high-quality engineering solutions while mentoring teams and driving business growth.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Charlotte-based site engineering team, overseeing all phases of land development projects from concept to completion.
  • Direct the preparation of construction drawings, specifications, engineering calculations, and construction services including RFIs, submittal reviews, and site inspections.
  • Ensure projects meet technical standards, regulatory requirements, budgets, and timelines.
  • Implement best practices and quality control measures across the department.
  • Coordinate cross-discipline efforts to ensure seamless project delivery.
  • Serve as Engineer of Record and maintain accountability for technical accuracy and compliance.
  • Support client relationship development and contribute to business development initiatives.
  • Perform administrative duties including staff scheduling, proposal writing, billing, and reporting.
  • Travel regionally as needed for project and client engagements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in land development design.
  • Familiarity with the Charlotte/Mecklenburg County market preferred.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage clients, projects, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and Hydrology Studio; experience with Newforma and EPANet 2.2 is a plus.
