Technical Manager - PV & BESS Projects (Africa Region)
Are you passionate about driving decarbonisation across Africa through innovative energy solutions? A leading renewable energy solutions provider is seeking a Technical Manager - PV & BESS to lead the technical delivery of solar and battery storage projects across the continent.
About the Role
Reporting to the Head of Engineering & Construction, you will be responsible for the full technical lifecycle of PV and BESS projects-from concept design through commissioning and post-delivery performance. You'll work closely with business development, engineering, and delivery teams to ensure projects meet the highest standards of technical excellence and client satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Pre-Construction Phase
- Lead the PV BESS Technical Sales Engineering team.
- Develop innovative technical solutions tailored to client decarbonisation goals.
- Provide expert input on control systems and high-tech components.
- Review tenders, technical specs, and vendor proposals.
- Conduct site visits to assess technical risks.
- Manage third-party consultants and ensure quality technical inputs.
- Train internal engineering teams and review vendor documentation.
Construction & Commissioning
- Oversee technical delivery and design coordination with vendors and contractors.
- Ensure compliance with technical standards and plant performance requirements.
- Conduct factory and site acceptance tests.
- Support commissioning activities and ensure documentation meets internal standards.
Post-Commissioning
- Manage technical liabilities and performance assessments.
- Oversee O&M obligations and ensure contractual compliance.
- Lead project debriefs and contribute to continuous improvement.
Reporting & Collaboration
- Provide regular project updates and briefings.
- Contribute to internal systems and cross-functional initiatives.
What We're Looking For
- Minimum 7 years' experience in PV BESS design and delivery (≥1MW capacity).
- Strong technical knowledge of PV BESS systems in African markets.
- Engineering degree (preferably Electrical, with Honours).
- Proficiency in MS Office and relevant design software.
- Excellent communication skills in English (additional African languages a plus).
- Proven leadership and stakeholder management skills.
- Passion for renewable energy and a proactive, self-starting attitude.
