Field SCADA Engineer

Field SCADA Engineer

About the Role

The Field SCADA Engineer is responsible for the deployment, commissioning, validation, and successful turnover of Ignition SCADA systems within mission-critical data centre environments. This is a highly client-facing, field-based role requiring extensive travel (50-60%) to support both onsite and remote implementation activities.

Working closely with development and commissioning teams, the Field SCADA Engineer will deploy SCADA packages, perform point-to-point verification, execute commissioning and validation activities, and ensure systems are fully operational prior to customer handover. The role is focused on the successful implementation and performance of engineered solutions in live production environments rather than software development.

Key Responsibilities

Field Deployment & Commissioning

  • Travel to client sites (50-60%) to support the deployment and commissioning of Ignition SCADA systems for data centre BMS (Building Management Systems) and EPMS (Electrical Power Monitoring Systems) applications.
  • Execute point-to-point verification of SCADA graphics, data points, alarms, and control sequences to ensure compliance with design specifications and operational requirements.
  • Conduct onsite testing and validation of Ignition Perspective projects, HMIs, and visualisation systems during commissioning activities.
  • Support commissioning teams throughout system integration, functional testing, and performance verification processes.

System Validation & Quality Assurance

  • Perform User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and interface validation to confirm systems meet client requirements and operational standards.
  • Verify the functionality of graphics templates, custom components, interactive visualisations, and 3D floorplans within deployed environments.
  • Validate communication and data integration between front-end interfaces and back-end systems, including PLCs, databases, and historians.
  • Test alarm functionality, trend displays, and real-time data presentation across desktop, tablet, and mobile platforms.
  • Troubleshoot visualisation issues, display errors, user interface concerns, and data connectivity problems within live production environments.

Client Support & System Turnover

  • Work directly with clients to demonstrate system capabilities and provide hands-on training during commissioning and turnover phases.
  • Support clients through user acceptance processes and address questions, concerns, or technical issues during go-live activities.
  • Provide troubleshooting and technical support during and after system deployment.
  • Coordinate with development teams to implement field-identified corrections, enhancements, or adjustments to SCADA packages.

Documentation & Knowledge Transfer

  • Document commissioning activities, point verification results, testing outcomes, and system configurations for project closeout.
  • Create and manage punch lists while tracking the resolution of field issues identified during deployment and commissioning.
  • Provide feedback to engineering and development teams regarding field performance, usability, and customer experience observations.
  • Maintain accurate records of as-built conditions, configuration changes, and field modifications for inclusion in client turnover packages.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience working with Ignition SCADA systems, specifically Ignition Perspective, within deployment, commissioning, or field engineering environments.

  • Hands-on experience performing point-to-point verification, commissioning, and validation of SCADA and/or BMS systems.

  • Strong understanding of Ignition Perspective interfaces, graphical systems, templates, visualisation tools, and UI components.

  • Experience working with PLCs, industrial communication protocols, and data integration in operational environments.

  • Demonstrated troubleshooting skills related to interfaces, display systems, communications, and data connectivity issues.

  • Ability to work independently onsite with minimal supervision during commissioning, implementation, and turnover activities.

  • Excellent communication and customer-facing skills, with the ability to conduct training sessions, system demonstrations, and technical discussions.

  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to testing, verification, and quality assurance processes.

  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 50-60%, including extended assignments at customer sites when required.

  • Valid driver's licence and ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed.

  • OSHA 10 Certification obtained within the last two years.

    • Candidates without a current OSHA 10 certification will be provided training and must successfully complete the certification within their first week of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience supporting data centres or other mission-critical facility environments with BMS and EPMS systems.
  • Familiarity with SQL databases, historians such as Canary and Ignition Historian, and MQTT communication protocols.
  • Knowledge of role-based user access, system security configurations, and dashboard customisation.
  • Experience using remote support tools and remote troubleshooting methodologies.
  • Understanding of construction, startup, and commissioning processes within large-scale industrial or mission-critical facilities.
  • Experience with User Acceptance Testing (UAT), quality assurance processes, and system validation methodologies.

Why Join This Opportunity?

This role offers the opportunity to work at the forefront of mission-critical infrastructure, supporting cutting-edge data centre projects and delivering advanced Ignition SCADA solutions for some of the industry's most complex facilities. Successful candidates will play a key role in ensuring systems are commissioned, validated, and handed over to clients with the highest levels of quality, reliability, and performance.
