PM Electrical Engineer

An exciting opportunity is available for a licensed Electrical Engineer with extensive experience in project management and leadership. This role focuses on the study, evaluation, design, construction management, commissioning, start-up, and troubleshooting of electrical and instrumentation and control (I&C) systems for water and wastewater treatment facilities and pumping stations.

The preferred location for this position is in Southeastern Virginia (Newport News, Virginia Beach, or Richmond), supporting innovative technology implementation in municipal and commercial utility systems across Southeastern and Central Virginia, Eastern North Carolina, and beyond. The successful candidate will collaborate with electrical engineering teams across the organization to ensure responsive service and creative solutions.

This position includes eligibility for a sign-on bonus.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead E/I&C projects and collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Design, size, select, and specify electrical and I&C equipment for water and wastewater projects.
  • Conduct technical evaluations for planning and design of electrical and I&C systems.
  • Prepare and review technical documents including reports, drawings, specifications, and proposals.
  • Supervise and support the development of project staff and subconsultants.
  • Facilitate internal and client meetings, presentations, and plan approvals.
  • Provide field services and investigations as needed.
  • Support construction administration including submittal reviews, RFIs, and change orders.
  • Assist with documentation and support for facility startup and commissioning.
  • Coordinate with clients, utility owners, and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Prepare detailed engineering cost estimates.
  • Travel occasionally for short durations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in design, construction, and start-up of electrical power and I&C systems, including:
    • Low and medium voltage power distribution
    • Emergency generators
    • Motor control centers
    • Variable frequency drives
    • Control panels, instrumentation, PLCs, and SCADA systems
  • Experience with lighting design and preparation of electrical/I&C drawings and specifications.
  • Familiarity with P&IDs and SCADA systems (PLCs, HMI software, servers, workstations).
  • Ability to program PLCs (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Modicon) and HMI software.
  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical building codes.
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) License.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in electrical and I&C systems for water/wastewater facilities.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and capable of solving complex system challenges collaboratively.
