Our client is a fully employee-owned environmental consulting and engineering firm with a strong presence on the West Coast and a growing portfolio of projects. They are seeking a Principal Biologist to provide leadership on natural resources projects across California, with a focus on transportation and land use sectors.
This is a high-level, remote position based in California, offering the opportunity to lead complex, multi-disciplinary projects, mentor a growing team of professionals, and help drive strategic business development as we expand our footprint across the region.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as technical lead and project manager on natural resources projects involving federal and state environmental regulations.
Oversee the preparation of technical studies, permitting documents, and compliance reports in alignment with CWA, CAA, CEQA, NEPA, ESA, and USFWS requirements.
Manage client relationships and support business development activities to grow the firm's presence across the West Coast.
Mentor and lead a team of biologists and environmental planning staff, promoting excellence in project delivery and staff development.
Collaborate with internal teams across disciplines to deliver integrated solutions for complex land use and infrastructure projects.
Qualifications:
10+ years of experience in natural resources consulting, with increasing responsibility in project and team leadership.
Deep understanding of California ecosystems, biological resources, and permitting processes.
Proven experience managing transportation and land use projects in compliance with state and federal environmental regulations (CEQA, NEPA, CWA, CAA, ESA, etc.).
Track record of successful client management and business development.
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
