A well-established and nationally respected design-build MEP firm is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to oversee conceptual design efforts across multiple projects and lead a team of engineers toward successful project delivery. This role combines technical leadership with departmental management and strategic alignment.
Responsibilities:
- Set department-level goals in line with broader organizational objectives
- Ensure internal engineering standards and quality controls are upheld
- Provide technical design support to internal project stakeholders
- Represent the design discipline in coordination and project meetings
- Develop advanced preliminary design layouts and redlines to support estimating
- Perform complex engineering calculations, such as load analysis, system sizing, and pressure drop assessments
- Conduct field reviews during construction to confirm compliance with design documents and resolve issues as they arise
Requirements:
- Deep expertise in building systems design (e.g., HVAC, plumbing, or related) and comprehensive understanding of design engineering principles
- Strong interpersonal communication skills for effective interaction with team members, clients, and project partners
- Proven leadership ability and experience managing engineering staff
- Confidence in public speaking and presenting technical concepts
- Proficiency in design and productivity tools such as CAD software and Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
- Experience working on: mission critical,
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (Master's degree preferred)
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- 10+ years of Mechanical Engineering experience
