Position Overview
The organization is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to lead project delivery across the Birmingham region. This role combines hands-on technical expertise with project management and team leadership, supporting projects from proposal through construction.
You will act as a technical authority, overseeing subsurface investigations, analyses, and foundation design while collaborating with internal teams and maintaining strong client relationships. This position plays a key role in delivering high-quality, practical ground engineering solutions aligned with project goals and budgets.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead geotechnical engineering projects from proposal through completion
- Plan and oversee subsurface investigations, drilling programs, and laboratory testing
- Perform and review analyses including:
- Settlement and bearing capacity
- Slope stability
- Earth retention systems
- Ground improvement recommendations
- Prepare and review detailed geotechnical reports and design recommendations
- Provide foundation design guidance based on site conditions and project requirements
- Collaborate with civil, structural, and CMT teams for integrated project delivery
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring on-time and on-budget execution
- Support client relationships, including meetings, presentations, and technical discussions
- Mentor junior engineers and review technical work for quality and accuracy
- Assist with proposals, budgeting, and business development efforts
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering (Master's preferred)
- Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or ability to obtain licensure in Alabama
- 8-12+ years of geotechnical engineering experience in a consulting environment
- Strong expertise in site investigations, foundation design, and geotechnical analysis
- Experience managing projects and coordinating multidisciplinary teams
- Solid understanding of industry standards, codes, and best practices
- Excellent communication skills with client-facing experience
